UK Coal is Britain’s biggest producer of coal and the supplier of approximately 7% of the country’s energy requirements for electricity generation. As an employer of over 4,000 people and producing in excess of 17 million tonnes of coal per annum, UK Coal is very focused on maximising its eleven mining operations and optimising its business opportunities. In May 2004, Jamieson Group were brought on board to implement a resource optimisation programme at Daw Mill, the country’s biggest underground mine located in Arley, near Coventry in the West Midlands.

Located in the Western Australian goldfields near Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Kanowna Belle is a regional plant processing ore from 5 remote mines. The gold mine operates both open pit and underground and is the flagship site for Barrick Gold in Australia. The plant operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, employs over 600 people and produces about 500,000 ounces of gold a year. Barrick are in the process of divesting another of their processing plants (Paddington) and consequently Kanowna Belle will develop into an even more important site for Barrick strategically, as it will be the sole processing plant in the region. |

In southern Chile, near the town of Chile Chico (Spanish for Little Chile) Coeur d’ Alene Mines Corporation owns and operates the Cerro Bayo mine. Comprising of a high grade gold and silver underground mine and processing facilities, Cerro Bayo is among the lowest cost silver mines in the world and continues to lead Coeur’s low-cost silver reserve and production growth.
Both Operations and Maintenance crews at the Cerro Bayo mine work two 10 hour shifts, with two 2 hour ventilation intervals between shifts.
